National Security and Border Control

Combating terrorism and preserving America's freedom are the fundamental drivers of our nation's foreign policy and national security strategy.  While engaged in two wars overseas, the Department of Defense's budget, manpower, and ability to defend our country has been cut.  The Department of Defense requires more funds and manpower in order to maintain our current national security objectives.  Equipment upgrades and research and development costs must gain the attention of our Congressional leadership.  Without immediate attention, the safety and securing of our families could be in jeopardy.

Second, our country must secure its borders and stop illegal immigration.  The illegal immigrant population in our country stands at 14 million - that is about 4 percent of the U.S. population.  American tax-payers carry an enormous burden due to unsecured borders and illegal immigration and the related issues our communities face - from drug smuggling and violence at the border, to rising health care costs for undocumented aliens and a drain on public services such as education.  I will make sure that the sovereign borders in our country, both Federal and State are defended to the best of our ability.  I will fight hard for border security legislation that is in line with the values we hold as Americans.
