Federal Deficit & Fiscal Responsibility

Spending in Washington has grown out of control.  Both Republicans and Democrats in Congress have allowed the national debt to soar to an astonishing $12 trillion - a figure larger than the size of the U.S. economy and representing a 208 percent increase since 1997.  Annual spending is over $3 trillion dollars per year, and the current budgets show deficits over $1 trillion for two more years.

During my first term in Congress, I plan to aggressively tackle the out-of-control federal government spending.  I will vote against any budget that does not provide for balancing government spending within five years.  Reducing the national debt will help ensure that our economy and consumption does not need to be financed by foreign countries such as China. I promise to vote against any increase in spending or taxes.

As a supporter of the Fair Tax, I will actively pursue reform of our burdensome tax code.  Americans suffer from higher tax rates year after year, causing decreased spending in the private sector and a weaker economy.  Many Americans are taxed for programs and services that are not being used.  The tax burden in the United States must be reduced.
